Heavy and/or Abnormal Loads

More than 10,000 heavy and/or abnormal load movements take place on Austria’s primary road network every year. ASFINAG facilitates such movements whilst ensuring optimal network availability for all other road users as well.

The difference between the transport of normal heavy goods and movements involving heavy and/or abnormal loads is that the latter are generally larger, longer, heavier and wider.

In the interests of safety and to protect you and other road users you MUST follow the instructions given by the escort officials.

Heavy and/or abnormal load movements require prior permission from the responsible offices of the Provincial authorities. ASFINAG determines whether such movements are technically feasible and generally possible on Austria’s primary road network.

ASFINAG aims to minimise impact on customers as far as possible while handling heavy/abnormal loads, which are important for industry, as efficiently as possible. The tools employed by the company to this end involve active network management and control and management of such movements.
