International networking

Our international activities

As a leading motorway operator in Europe, ASFINAG has an international presence and network.

Our international activities are based on three pillars

Active participation on the EU level

Through our liaison office in Brussels we have a say when it comes to important framework conditions regarding the construction, financing, operation and tolling of motorways and expressways. This ensures that international developments are identified early and the interests of ASFINAG and Austria are actively taken into consideration by the European institutions.

In touch with the times through international partnerships

Via our international partnerships, for example with ASECAP (association of European motorway concessionaires and operators of tolled road infrastructures), IBTTA (International Bridge, Tunnel and Turnpike Association), PIARC (World Road Association) and CEDR (Conference of European Directors of Roads), we obtain additional important information about international developments and technical innovations in the road sector. Important priorities in this context include multimodality, climate change, the environment and sustainability.

The comprehensive expertise of our pool of experts

Through our employees at ASFINAG Commercial Services GmbH (ACS), we can "test" our own expertise abroad and also gain new experiences. The ACS sees itself as a hub between the group and the international market on the one hand, and as an intermediary between ASFINAG experts and international suppliers on the other.

We rely on our pool of ASFINAG experts from the different company divisions for commercial (consulting) projects; this gives our (international) clients access to diverse and high-quality knowledge. And vice versa, we benefit from gaining new knowledge for ASFINAG from our international work and from project execution.

Obtaining and processing EU funding for ASFINAG projects

EU funding programme Connecting Europe Facility (CEF)

In close coordination with the Federal Ministry for Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology (BMK) and AustriaTech, ASFINAG applies for EU funding and provides support in the formulation of funding agreements. In addition, ASFINAG is responsible for contract processing (reporting and accounting) in the context of the funding agreements.

Our partner on the part of the EU is the Innovation and Networks Executive Agency (INEA), an agency of the European Commission that deals with EU funding programmes. For ASFINAG, the funding programme Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) is of particular interest.
