ASFINAG goes EETS

In May 2012 ASFINAG International launched the project "Market Entry EETS-Provider". The project shall provide the commercial and organizational basis for establishing the business of an EETS-Service by the ASFINAG group. The Project's goals are to evaluate a potential cooperation with (foreign) partners interested in the business and to provide the basis for a decision whether to invest in the business.

The core of the business is based on the 2009 initiative by the European Commission to establish a common European Electronic Toll Service (EETS) until October 2012: A single contract with one EETS Provider shall allow EETS-users to pay their tolls in all EETS domains of the European road network.

Within the EETS role model ASFINAG is the "Toll Charger" of the Austrian motorway network (the service is operated by ASFINAG Maut Service GmbH). ASFINAG now evaluates the option to set up the business of an EETS-Provider. However, according to European law such a service shall be strictly separated from the service of a Toll Charger so that cross subsides between the two activities are excluded.

Therefore, such a business will be operated by ASFINAG International, the commercial branch of the ASFINAG group. Market entry shall be prepared by ASFINAG European Toll Service, a 100 % subsidiary of ASFINAG International. Managing director Hubert Resch coordinates an interdisciplinary team of experts of the ASFINAG-group.
