Registered vehicle owners can choose whether they want to pay the toll by an authorized means of payment in arrears (post-pay), by acquiring toll credits in advance that are saved on the GO-Box (pre-pay) or directly to ASFINAG using GO Direkt.
This system is similar to mobile phone pre-pay card systems. The customer buys toll credits up to a certain maximum amount in advance and then “consumes them”. Means of payment accepted for this procedure are: cash, the electronic “Quick” payment system, debit cards (Maestro), fuel and credit cards.
Registered vehicle owners who use the toll system frequently have the option of using the post-pay procedure. After having registered their vehicle, owners can use the tolled road network and the individual toll transactions will be charged in arrears to the card registered for their vehicle. Settlement based on such post-pay contracts is only possible with in the appendix 2 of the tolling regulation accepted fuel and credit cards – provided that the respective card company has given the relevant payment guarantees to ASFINAG for use of such cards.
Registered vehicle owners also have the option of making their toll payments directly to ASFINAG. For more information on this new and convenient payment method please refer to GO Direkt.
Detailed information on the toll transactions invoiced using both the pre-pay and the post-pay procedures are provided as toll detail information, which can be downloaded free of charge from the Internet. Furthermore, a print out of older toll detail information can be ordered from the ASFINAG Service Center on 0 800 400 12 400 or +43 (1) 955 12 66 - a fee is charged for this service.
a) Paying by GO Direkt
Customers who pay using the GO Direkt system receive their invoice from ASFINAG directly. They may choose between receiving their invoice either by mail or electronically by e-mail and either weekly, monthly or bi-monthly.
b) Paying cash or using the Quick system
Customers who pay at the GO point of sale either cash or using the Quick system receive their invoice immediately on payment.
c) Paying with credit cards
All transactions using credit cards are transmitted to the respective card companies for settlement on a daily basis.
Pre-pay customers are issued with their invoice at the GO point of sale (in line with the provisions set out under Art. 11 of the Austrian Value Added Tax Act). Only address information provided by the customer will be printed on the receipt. The customer may add the address information to the receipt if he did not provide them initially.
Post-pay customers receive their invoice by the post-pay procedure directly from ASFINAG. The invoice is sent – as requested by the customer– either monthly or bi-monthly and either by mail or electronically by e-mail.
d) Payment by fuel card
All transactions effected with fuel cards are transmitted to the respective card company for settlement on a daily basis.
When using the pre-pay procedure to purchase toll credits the user will receive a delivery note at the point of sale and the invoice from the fuel card company.
When using the post-pay pay procedure the user will receive the invoice from the respective card company.
When paying by credit cards from countries that use the euro as their currency, users will generally not have to pay handling fees, but annual fees may be charged for using the cards.
When using fuel cards, customers may be charged so-called “service fees“ by the fuel card companies. Such “service fees” are charged exclusively at the discretion of the fuel card companies and ASFINAG has no influence over such charges.
When paying by GO Direkt neither annual nor service fees are charged.
