Attaching the toll sticker and toll sticker monitoring

The valid toll sticker must be properly affixed to the vehicle before using toll roads.

!  Please note that the mere purchase or possession of a toll sticker does NOT satisfy the requirements for proper toll payment.

Attaching the toll sticker on multi-track vehicles (e.g. cars)

The valid and undamaged toll sticker must be affixed without any additional aid directly to the inner surface of the windscreen so that it can easily be seen and inspected from the outside. (It is not admissible to attach the toll sticker behind a strip of tinted dark glass).

!  Please read the attachment instructions given on the reverse of each toll sticker.

Attaching the toll sticker on a single-track vehicle (motorbike)

Toll stickers must be attached in a visible place and to a part of the motorbike that is either impossible or very difficult to remove (this means that tools have to be used in order to be able to remove the relevant part of the motorbike).

Does the toll sticker have to be affixed to the vehicle?

In principle, yes. Exceptions only apply in the following cases:

  • The KorridorVignette (corridor toll sticker) merely has to be carried in the vehicle. In multi-track vehicles (such as cars) the KorridorVignette must be placed inside the vehicle behind the windscreen in such a way that it is easily visible and and can easily be inspected from the outside.
  • In vehicles using trade plates, a properly punched two-month toll sticker may just be carried inside the vehicle. Annual toll stickers and ten-day toll stickers, however, must be affixed to the inside of the windscreen.
  • In vehicles that are type-approved without windscreen, the toll sticker does not have to be affixed but just has to be carried inside the vehicle.

Before parking your vehicle in a rest area/service station that is subject to payment of a toll, the toll sticker must be placed inside the vehicle in a way that it can be easily seen and inspected from the outside.

The toll sticker is vehicle-bound, i.e. it is not transferrable to another vehicle.

Please remove the toll sticker only after its term of validity has expired. Removal will automatically invalidate the toll sticker due to its integrated security features.

!  Note: Removing expired toll stickers

Lift up one corner of the toll sticker and peel off all of the layers at the same time. Use water only to soak and remove any glue residues. No more than a maximum of two Austrian toll stickers are to be affixed to the windscreen at any one time.

Please note that the lower section of the toll sticker (counterfoil with the serial number) must be retained for the following two reasons:

  • Acquisition of an annual toll card for special toll sections at reduced rates: when presenting the lower section of the valid toll sticker you will receive a one-time discount of EUR 40.00 (maximum) on the purchase of one single annual card for any special toll route in Austria.
  • Proof of purchase: the lower section of the toll sticker is one of the proofs you are required to provide in the event that a broken windscreen has to be replaced and you are applying for a replacement toll sticker (or if you are applying for reimbursement of the toll sticker costs).
