European Electronic Toll Service (EETS)

The European Electronic Toll Service – or EETS for short – is designed to simplify toll payments within the European Union.

The European Electronic Toll Service is designed to enable the payment of tolls through a single contract, a single EETS provider and a single vehicle device (OBU - On Board Unit) throughout the EU.

Toll customers can enter into a contract with an EETS provider of their choice. The EETS providers pay the toll to the toll chargers, who in turn invoice their customers.

The basic requirements of a European Electronic Toll Service are laid down in the Directive EU/2019/520. The Directive EU/2019/520 of 19th March 2019 on the interoperability of electronic road toll systems and facilitating cross-border exchange of information on the failure to pay road fees in the Union is the basis for the implementation of EETS in the EETS domains of the Member States.

According to the Directive, each toll charger is obligated to draw up specifications for the EETS domain (EETS Domain Statement), which include the general conditions for the acceptance of an EETS provider.

The EETS Domain Statement as well as all corresponding annexes are exclusively aimed at EETS providers within the meaning of the Directive EU/2019/520. Meeting the requirements laid out in these documents forms the basis of a contract conclusion for an EETS provider in the EETS domain of ASFINAG.

The following EETS Providers have signed a contract with ASFINAG (Status November 2023):

  • DKV Euro Service GmbH & Co. KG
  • Telepass S.p.A.
  • Toll4Europe GmbH
  • tolltickets GmbH
  • TotalEnergies Marketing Services
  • eurotoll SAS
  • Axxès SAS
  • W.A.G. payment solutions (Eurowag)
  • BroBizz A/S
  • ØresundPAY

ASFINAG has carefully compiled the information on the specifications for the EETS area in the annexes. However, no liability is assumed for their correctness and completeness.

ASFINAG reserves the right to change the annexes at any time and without prior notice or notification.
