GO-Box for HGV and bus

HGVs, buses and heavy motor homes need to use Austrian motor- and expressways pay a distance-related toll. Specially the GO-Box was developed.

The new GO toll system for vehicles over 3.5 tonnes startet in 2004. Back then it was a significant development in terms of user-friendliness, safety and cost-effectiveness: no loss, no use special lanes and without reducing the speed of toll collection. The microwave technology used to work flawlessly from the beginning - the nationwide "free flow toll system" had been constructed in a record time of just 18 months and allows a fully electronic toll calculation for vehicles over 3.5 tonnes gross vehicle weight since then. The result: liquid transport for all participants at the highest possible security.

ASFINAG is a fully user-financed company and does not receive any financial subsidies from the national budget. All revenues from the sale of toll stickers, HGV tolls and special toll routes are reinvested solely in the construction, operation and safety of the primary road network in Austria. At ASFINAG, we thank our customers for the prompt payment of tolls.

For motor vehicles weighing more than 3.5 tonnes maximum permissible weight (MPW) – i.e. all HGVs, buses and heavy motor homes – a distance-related toll applies on the road network operated by ASFINAG. As an alternative to the conventional toll sticker, the GO-Box has been especially developed for the HGV toll. You can obtain one from our GO points of sale. The rates depend on the number of axle, the number of kilometers travelled and the EURO emission class of vehicles. Payment is made either in advance (Pre-Pay) or in arrears (Post-Pay) and settled e.g. direct with ASFINAG via GO Direkt.

Toll rates 2017

Since 1 January 2010, the toll rate for vehicles with a maximum permissible weight of over 3.5 tonnes has been calculated based on the number of axles and the EURO emission classes. As of 1 January 2017, noise pollution will also be taken into account along with air pollution (EURO emission classes).

The toll rate will then be broken down as follows:
  • Basic kilometre rate for infrastructure
  • Surcharge for traffic-related air pollution
  • Surcharge for traffic-related noise pollution
