Via service and controls, the MSG is also responsible for finding and prosecuting road users who use the ASFINAG road network without having paid the toll. The MSG also includes the areas of telematic services, system development, system operation, customer management, payment transactions, toll collection and service and controls.
Revenue is used for specific purposes
In accordance with the provisions of the federal roads toll act 2002 (Bundesstraßen-Mautgesetzes), on its road network ASFINAG has the right (depending on the maximum permissible weight (mpw) of the vehicle) to collect a time-dependent toll (up to and including 3.5 t mpw the toll sticker) or a distance-dependent toll (above 3.5 t mpw). On certain sections of the ASFINAG road network, no time-dependent toll (toll sticker) is collected for vehicles up to and including 3.5 t mpw, but rather a route toll. These are the A 9 Pyhrn motorway, the A 10 Tauern motorway, the A 11 Karawanken motorway, the S 16 Arlberg expressway and the entire A 13 Brenner motorway. Six main toll stations are responsible for toll collection along these sections. For motor vehicles above 3.5 t mpw, the distance-dependent toll applies along these sections in accordance with the provisions of the federal roads toll act (Bundesstraßen-Mautgesetz). The Federal Ministry for Transport, Innovation and Technology is responsible for the category and pricing structure. The entire income from the toll is invested in road construction, financing and maintenance.
