Safety en route for HGV and bus

Our top priority is to optimise road safety for all customers. And so we invest one out of every two euros in your safety. There are some 6,900 parking spaces in the ASFINAG network for the safety of lorry and bus drivers. That way, you can easily comply with the legally prescribed breaks.

Secure rest areas

The rest area concept developed by ASFINAG delivers more safety and convenience. All new rest areas are well lit, fitted with video cameras and emergency phones, and they have modern sanitary arrangements and family-friendly facilities. The new rest areas are currently being fitted with defibrillators for first aid.

The communal areas are fitted with drink vending machines and information boards about local sights. Some rest areas also have what we call convenience kiosks (bakeries, coffee shop area) selling food and drinks for your journey. All rest areas will also gradually be fitted with free internet access (WiFi).

Secure rest areas

Where can I take my breaks? Which car park is nearby? Where are there free parking spaces? The lorry parking information system helps (professional) drivers find a free parking space. Around the cities of Vienna and Linz, there is an information system in place that provides live information on the occupancy rate of the car parks.

Safe driving tips for HGV drivers
  • You must comply with the prescribed rest periods.
  • Observe the lorry overtaking ban.
  • Find out about lorry driving bans.
  • Make sure you are well equipped in the winter.
  • As a rule, the stopping distance of a lorry is 30 percent longer than for a car. It is therefore particularly important to observe the safety distance to the vehicle in front, which should never be less than 50 metres.
